You may have heard of removing an ink stain with hair spray before. I never had until I was faced with the dilemma of removing a large ink stain from a brand new shirt! Normally I would have trashed but since this was the first time she’d ever worn it and I had adorable pants to match it, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and remove it.
I am no stain removal expert by any means! But I was told by many family and friends that hairspray would eventually remove it.
Original Stain
First Wash
For the first wash I used regular hairspray that I had around the house. Expensive hairspray too, although I’ve heard the cheaper the better.
You can obviously still see plenty of ink!
Second Wash
For the second wash, I used hairspray again. I didn’t have much left to start with so I ran out of hairspray during this step. The majority of my hairspray was used on the right sleeve (bottom) so I also used some Resolve Spray-n-Wash on the other (top).
You can see a significant difference between the sleeve that had hairspray (bottom) and the one did not (top).
Third Wash
Since I was out of hairspray I decided to use Spray-n-Wash AND Shout Advanced Ultra Gel (recommend by my mother-in-law) which has a built-in brush to loosen up the stain and seems to work better than the spray-in-wash.
Fourth Wash and Final Result after dried.
For the final wash I used only the Shout Advanced. I let it and used the built-in brush to loosen the ink stain.
Not bad considering the initial stain. I probably could have wash it one more time and maybe gotten rid of the stain completely but I was happy with the end result.
BEFORE and AFTER
*All washes were ran on normal cycle using my regular laundry detergent

I had this happen to my daughter the last day of school. Some older kids had broken an ink pen and spread it all over the park play equipment. And of course, it wasn’t a shirt that was old–it was one she loved.
The best thing I did was use rubbing alcohol. Hairspray has alcohol in it, so that is probably why it worked. I tried both, and I found that the rubbin alcohol was the most successful. So that is another option you have.
