I do believe I am obsessed with burlap. And subway art, most definitely!

Thanksgiving Tablescape

I decided to do a rustic look for my Thanksgiving table this year! It’s very warm and natural and the burlap gives it that southern touch!

The flowers and adorable turkey and pumpkin containers came from ProFlowers. I love the pop of color from the flowers and the ambience of the candles really give off the welcoming mood.

I made this super simple and inexpensive burlap Thanksgiving table runner with my silhouette. I couldn’t wait to share it with you!

I want to make one for Christmas now! Heck maybe every holiday!

DIY Burlap Table Runner

  1. First I cut out a stencil with my Silhouette Cameo. I cut (6) 12×12 stencils out of cardstock. Each one is similar but not exactly alike. I designed them in the Silhouette Studio using different font styles.
  2. Keep in mind the type of fonts you’re using. I tried to use fonts that were bold and didn’t have too many center pieces – like E instead of e. The lowercase ‘e’ has a center that isn’t connected to anything.
  3. For the letters that do have centers, I used tape to keep the them in place, before removing the stencil from my cutting mat.
  4. I used spray glue on my burlap to keep the stencil from moving around. For a temporary hold, spray your burlap and let it sit a minute before adding the stencil.
  5. Once the stencil is secured to the burlap you can remove the tape from your letter centers. The temporary glue will hold them in place. I used assorted stencil brushes and Americana acrylic paint (bc it was the cheapest) to paint on my letters. Thinner letters needed thinner brushes.
  6. Remove your stencil immediately. You don’t want it to dry on the burlap. Just be careful not to smudge any paint.
  7. To finish it off, I sprayed my runner with Scotchgard to protect it from any Thanksgiving spills. And I sewed a zig-zag stitch all the way around to keep it from fraying. You could use a no-sew Peel-n-Stick Fabric Fuse to hem the edges if you’re not fond of the sewing machine.

My table runner was about 14 inches wide because my cameo can cut up to 12 inches wide. Then that left me with an inch of wiggle room on each side of the stencil.

Burlap Wrapped Candles

The candles were super super simple! And saved me a ton of money! I bought cheap white candles and used some leftover burlap from my table runner project to wrap them. I used a zig-zag stitch to keep the edges from unraveling but you could simply use a no-fray spray or nothing at all.

I used leftover strands of twine from my burlap to tie around the candles. You could use a colorful ribbon or even a pretty fabric flower instead of the twine.
