For many years, getting together with friends for a Super Bowl party meant adults acting like children watching the biggest game of the year. Now you, and many of your friends, have kids of your own and when you throw that big yearly get together it is a good idea to have things for the kids to do so they aren’t bored (or getting into any trouble!). Not sure exactly what to have ready for the kids to do during the game? Here are several ideas that will keep boredom at bay and ensure all your guests for Super Bowl Sunday have a blast.

Have a Central Place for the Kids

You can save yourself a ton of clean up after the Super Bowl gathering with a little preparation beforehand. Set up an area in the corner of the room where you can easily see the kids but they can still do their own thing. You will need a large table. Having a folding table with chairs is a great way to set up an activities area for the children, and on the floor, under the table, set up oilcloth or plastic tablecloth. You can even use a cheap clear shower curtain from the Dollar Store. This one move will save your floors from any spills or accidents that happen to happen. You can stack up board games, a deck of cards, paper and coloring books with crayons and markers, and books to read. Every child will be able to find something to do at the table.Activities for Kids to Do - During the Super Bowl That Rock

Video Games

If the television that the adults are viewing the Super Bowl on isn’t the only television in the house, set up a video game area for the kids to play. This is especially great if you have a Kinect with your XBox or a Wii because then more kids can get up and get into the games physically. If you don’t, make sure everyone takes turns, and you can also set up a tournament. Let the kids pick a 2-player game and whoever wins the first round plays the next child, and so on and have a prize for the winner.

Half Time Video Star

Not everyone enjoys the half time show and this is a great time to take a break from the game and spend a little time seeing what your kids have been up to. Another fun thing to do is let the kids be the half time show. All you need for this is a camera you can plug in to the television or a computer screen. Let the kids lip sync to songs (it’s the same thing that’s probably happening at the Half Time show except your kids will most likely be more entertaining, right?!) and enjoy the floor show!

Super Bowl Kids Cook-Off

This was inspired by the television show “Chopped.” However, instead of actually cooking, these are cuisine delights are made with dry ingredients. Just take some large sized brown paper grocery bags and put 4 pieces of bread, something odd like jelly beans or M&M candies, potato chips, and any other items that don’t need cooking to use in the bag. Then challenge the kids to make a sandwich that is awesome and tell them they will have to taste their sandwich as well as the other sandwiches the other kids make to vote on the best. Have a prize like a Papa John’s gift card for the winner and something for everyone that plays in the Super Bowl Party Cook-Off. This is definitely an activity to have your camera or at least your cell phone cam, ready for action.

Face Painting Fun

If everyone’s parents are okay with having their kid’s face painted (seriously, ask! Not everyone is) then it’s a fun way to get into some team spirit. You can use face paints you buy or make your own using pure cocoa butter, corn starch, and pure food colorings. The corn starch is necessary to keep the homemade face paint from staining the skin, so definitely don’t skip it. The key is to add the food coloring just a drop or two at a time to a small amount of cocoa butter and corn starch and keep stirring. You will be able to get the hue you want. Use a small brush to apply, and be sure and capture the moment in a photo for the kids.

A Bag of Goodies for All

When it’s time to go, make sure every child gets a bag full of goodies. You can have fun things like a foam football, pencils and erasers, note pads with their favorite NFL team, and assorted candies. You can also include bubbles, and you did face painting, a little travel bottle of makeup remover is a great thing to include. Also be sure to include a note that you’re so glad they came to your Super Bowl party. If you took photos of the kids for face painting, the sandwich building, or any other activities; include a note that you’ll be sending those photos via email so their parents can see how much fun they had and have a lasting memory.

These are just a few of the many ideas you can use to make the Super Bowl gathering as much fun for the kids as the adults that are watching the game. It only takes a little prepping, and you can ensure that every guest, both young and old, has a blast on Super Bowl Sunday.
