I made these adorable pencil holder valentines for my daughter’s kindergarten class. The school is candy-free, so only healthy snacks or small toys are allowed for Valentine’s Day celebrations. I found these cute themed pencils at Target in the dollar section.
These super cute woodland animals are from TheHungryJpeg, and the beautiful overlays are from Pretty Action. Both are available for free to download on their own, I just put the two together.
Supplies:
- White Cardstock
- Red Cardstock (cut into squares)
- Valentine’s Day Pencils
- Glue
- Scissors
Free Printable:
- Cute Animal Valentines PNG – For Printing and Cutting by hand
- Cute Animal Valentines Studio File – For Silhouette Print and Cut
Directions:
If you are NOT using a Silhouette electronic cutting machine, you have two options:
First you need to print out your animal characters on white cardstock.
Option A) You can leave the animals as they are on the white cardstock and simply cut them apart.
Option B) You can cut each animal out by hand and layer them on top of red cardstock squares.
Then all you need to do is add your pencil and/or candy bag. You may want to write a special message or name on the back. Each sheet makes 4 valentines.
Silhouette Print and Cut:
First, open your file in Silhouette Studio. Make sure your registration marks are turned on. Click Print.
Now that your registration marks are printed on your cardstock, you can run it through your Silhouette machine. The registration marks will tell the Silhouette machine where to cut.
Cut the red cardstock into four equal squares. They turned out to be the perfect size for holding a pencil, but you could print these valentines as large or as small as you like.
Glue the animal cutouts onto the red cardstock. You may want to write a special message or name on the back before you add the pencil.
To attach the pencil make a small slit in two corners with your scissors or an x-acto knife. If you are giving candy bags instead of pencils, you can skip this step and staple your treat bags directly to the valentine.

This is a super cute Valentine’s Day idea, especially if a child is not into (or too old for) specific cartoon characters. I think the owl is my personal favorite!
I have never heard of a silhouette machine that is pretty cool. I don’t do crafts enough to own one, but that is pretty sweet! Makes me want to do more crafts!
