We’ve been talking about repainting the walls in our house since we moved in over a year ago. The house we bought was a foreclosure, and it was painted with the cheapest paint ever made. It’s a beautiful color but terrible to clean. I could literally wipe the color off the walls before sticky toddler fingerprints would come off.

One year later, after five million fingerprints and (multiple) rooms with colorful toddler artwork, we decided it was time to start repainting… one room at a time.

We are still deciding on colors for our bedroom but we recently rearranged it, along with our living room. We matched the living room paint color at Home Depot and touched up the problem areas.

Our oldest daughter’s room is the only room completely finished!

Colorhouse (formerly YOLO Colorhouse) sent me some color samples to try out our favorite purple colors since purple is Natalie’s favorite color!

We thought about doing alternating stripes all over the walls or one bold stripe towards the top. I even thought about painting the entire room in the ombre style. But she specifically requested a purple room with purple stars.

We decided to do the room in Sprout .07 (light purple) and the stars in Create .06 (dark purple), both in Eggshell sheen which is durable, stain resistance, and easy to wipe clean. Colorhouse paints are perfect for kids’ bedrooms and nurseries since they perform like a premium conventional paint, but they have low odor, no harmful chemicals, and no added solvents.

Colorhouse Paint Palette

Colorhouse paint has NO mutagens, NO hazardous air pollutants, NO ozone depleting compounds, NO formaldehyde, NO phthalates, and NO volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Plus Colorhouse paint is available on Amazon and at Home Depot for about $35 per gallon.

We got lucky with the new furniture. My hubby’s coworker was getting rid of a bedroom set that her daughter outgrew, so we were able to get a white twin bed with trundle, a nightstand, and a dresser completely free!

I had good little helpers thrilled to get their hands on some paint rollers. I was really impressed at how well the white primer covered, but even more impressed with the purple. It went on very clean and smooth. We did two coats of paint just for good measure, but the first coat covered so well, the second wasn’t even necessary.

I made a 22 inch star stencil with my Silhouette CAMEO but you could purchase one online for about $35. I used Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Spray and tape to secure the stencil to the wall before painting.

We painted two light coats of the dark purple to keep any paint from running behind the stencil. Some of the paint still bled through so we ended up touching up the stars by hand to give them a clean look.

The words between the stars were cut out of white vinyl with my CAMEO. They stick on the wall like stickers. The quote came from a Bob Dylan song called “Forever Young” which you probably heard playing at the end of Season 1 on Sons Of Anarchy.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young

Glow In The Dark Bedding

I bought the comforter off Amazon. While I wasn’t thrilled with the price or the quality, it does glow in the dark, which is pretty darn cool. We added glow-in-the-dark star stickers all over the ceiling in her room too.

We may use the rest of the leftover paint in the girls’ playroom. Stay tuned for the upcoming playroom and living room reveals!
