I started teaching my kids to cook at a very young age. Cooking builds self esteem. Kids learn math skills like sorting and fractions. They learn to work together and many other important skills like healthier eating habits.
My girls love to help me in the kitchen with even the smallest task. My 5 year old daughter can just about bake an entire cake on her own. Seriously.
I try to involve them as much as possible while keeping them away from hot cooktops and sharp knives. They are always more open to trying new foods when they’ve helped prepare it!
Here’s a great kid friendly recipe that everyone will love!
Sweet Ham & Cheese Sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 10 Sweet Rolls
- 1 lb. Deli Sliced Ham
- 1/2 lb. Sliced White American Cheese
- 1/2 stick Butter, melted
- 2-3 tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9×13 baking dish with butter.
Cut the sandwich rolls in half crosswise. Make the sandwiches with a thick slice of ham (or two) and a slice of cheese.
In a medium bowl, combine the Butter, Brown Sugar, Mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
Line the sandwiches in your baking dish and coat them with the buttery mixture using a brush or you can just pour the mixture over the top.
Bake on 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
