June is World Ocean’s Month and there’s no better time to talk about the crucial importance of protecting our oceans right here in Atlanta. We were invited to Georgia Aquarium to check out the new and exciting additions for their 10th Anniversary Celebration. I decided to bring my mom along with us since she had never been to Georgia Aquarium before.
New Touch Pools
My girls have been to Georgia Aquarium once, but they’ve never touched a shark before. They loved the new 6,000-gallon touch pool located on the second floor at the end of Aquanaut Adventure. These new touch pools are designed to be accessible for visitors of all ages and physical abilities.
My mom didn’t want to touch the shark, even though they are small. However, she did touch a stingray for the first time in her life!
Under the Boardwalk
I haven’t seen sea lions since we went to San Fransisco on our honeymoon. SunTrust Pier 225’s live presentation, Under the Boardwalk, features the highly social California sea lions. The 20-25 minutes show let’s you watch firsthand as their dedicated trainers interact with the sea lions.
AT&T Dolphin Celebration
The girls favorite presentation is the AT&T Dolphin Celebration experience. It’s different every time I see it, and if you are brave enough to sit in the first 10 rows, you have the opportunity to get drenched by splashing dolphins.
Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea
Since our last visit, they have added a fascinating visual representation of the pollution in our oceans, and its devastating effects on marine life. The art exhibition features sculptures of ocean animal life constructed entirely of plastic that was purchased by someone, discarded, became waterborne and landed on a beach where someone else picked it up and made a difference.
The pieces will be on display throughout Georgia Aquarium through September 25, 2016. Each piece includes educational facts about the art and tips on how we can reduce pollution and help preserve our world’s oceans.
What Can You Do?
• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Invest in a reusable water bottle instead of using single-use plastic bottles.
• “Paper or plastic?” Neither! Bring your own reusable bags and avoid products with excess packaging.
• Avoid body care products containing tiny plastic “micro-scrubbers” that wash down the drain into our oceans.
• Keep our beaches clean! Organize or join clean-up activities in your area.

Looks like so much fun! We’ve been to our new local aquarium a few times and can’t get enough of it. My kids love checking out all the sea life. Wish we were closer to the Georgia aquarium I’ve always heard great things!
We love the Georgia Aquarium. The touch pool is so cool!
The aquarium is one of my favorite places to visit, especially with the entire family. This one looks absolutely stunning and I appreciate the hands on aspects.
This aquarium seems amazing! The tank with the whale sharks is incredible.I like the conservation tips.

Oh wow what an amazing looking aquarium – amazing to get so close to some of the animals. x
The “Art to Save the Sea” is awesome! My daughter and I went on a float trip yesterday and spent half the time collecting trash out of the river. The display they created is beautiful!
What a neat looking place. They just opened an aquarium here in Michigan and I have yet to make it over to see it. Might have to change that.
Oh I love the trash art! It’s amazing how much crap we throw away in general, much less how much ends up in the water.
I love to visit aquariums. I am looking forward to someday visiting the one in Georgia really soon!
They look like they had so much fun! I always love to visit the aquarium.
What a cool aquarium! This is reminding me we haven’t visited ours in too long!
I like to visit an aquarium like this in our country. Those octopus ornaments are so nice.
We had memberships to our local aquarium, and the kids always had a blast. This looks like a beautiful way to explore the ocean residents. I love that art exhibit.
The Georgia Aquarium is one of the best in the country, in my opinion. We go there all the time, and we never get tired of it.
This really is a beautiful aquarium! We enjoyed the dolphin part the best when we went.
Your photos are absolutely stunning! Wonderful job capturing the essence of one of my favorite places!
I’m in love with aquariums, as is my daughter. I’m definitely adding this one to our family travel bucket list. Thanks for sharing!
Incredible images! You make me to take my kiddos along for a trip to the aquarium – and this one looks fantastic!
