My 64 year old dad got baptized in the river this weekend! After being diagnosed with chronic leukemia/lymphoma and most recently diagnosed with lung cancer, he finally decided to get right with God!
We had a nice family reunion with his brothers and sisters on Sunday. One of my dads brothers drove all the way from Arizona!
There were 12 people total who were baptized. The grassy area by the river was beautiful, right next to an old mill, but the water was FREEZING!
Does anyone know what this thing is? It moved very quick like a hummingbird. It was hard to get a photo. I first thought it was a bee but it has a fuzzy lobster tail.
Any ideas?

What a beautiful WW!
Sorry to learn of your father’s diagnoses. How awful.
My thoughts go out to you and your family.
I’m sorry to hear about your Dad. 🙁
That bee-like flying thing is crazy! Kinda creepy. Love the pictures though!
I am so sorry 🙁
Sorry about your father 🙁 That bug thing is creepy! Never seen anything like that here in Indiana!
Oh my. My Mom had leukemia too. She was 87. They told her she had 4 days – 2 weeks to live and she lived for 15 weeks. The last 3 days of her life were drastic days of decline but she was able to hold on for many months after the diagnosis. Cancer is the “good-bye” disease. We get to say good bye. Wishing you many heart-felt moments of fond memories. This baptism will be one of those moments. (hug)
That’s so true. My dad said this is probably the last time he will see his brother from Arizona. I dread those declining days, I know it’s not pretty. I’m glad we know what is coming and have some time to prepare and say good-bye though.
It really makes it so much more special when you’re close to nature.
I went back and read your post more. I’m so sorry about your Father. How difficult. I’m sure he loved how close you were on that day.
So sorry about your father’s illness. I lost my mom to cancer in 1990. Your photos are beautiful and the angels in heaven are rejoicing at your father’s confession of faith. Praise God!
That is wonderful. First time since the bible that I am hearing river baptism ceremony.
So sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis, but so happy that he is right with the Lord! Praise God. I love the inclusion of the butterflies, such a wonderful significance in relation to the baptism.
Sorry, I have no clue what the insect is, but I am so curious now.
Love the river baptism pictures. I watched many a sinner get baptized in the little river near my cousin’s house.
Beautiful pictures!! Congratulations to your dad!! Sorry to hear about his diagnosis.
So sorry about your Dad. Great shots of the Baptism though. That is the craziest looking bug I’ve ever seen.
Sorry to hear about your Dad but he did the right thing.
Those are some beautiful pictures and that thing is a bit scary looking but still makes the pictures beautiful.
Amy –
It’s a Hummingbird Moth. So beautiful – and that river water does look VERY cold!
Oh cool! I’ll check it out! You’re the first person to have any idea what it is!
So sorry to hear of your dad’s diagnosis. What a beautiful way for him to reach out to the Lord. May he find the peace he is seeking. Beautiful pics of that special day! Blessings!
I love those river baptisms!
It’s great that your family all got to be there to support him as he made such a huge decision to follow God.
And I have NO clue what that insect is. Strange!
There’s something about river baptism that gives me wonderful little goosebumps. So glad hear your father is in Christ.
I’m so sorry that he’s sick and wish you strength for the journey ahead…how special that you shared this now, though.
Such a beautiful moment. I think your pictures are beautiful!! Sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis.
