Welcome to Project 52.
One theme, one photo, once a week. Simple.
I had lunch with my husband twice this week on the square in Gainesville. I can do that now since both of the girls started school!
The square has lots of small boutiques and restaurants. Since “structure” is our theme this week, I figured it was a perfect place to walk around and shoot.

In 1828, the Gold Rush frenzy in Lumpkin County brought new settlers and the beginnings of a business community. Then in 1936, two tornadoes simultaneously hit the very center of Gainesville. It’s still the fifth deadliest tornado in US History.

After WWII, Gainesville was know as the “Poultry Capital of the World.” And in 1961, the City Council made it illegal to eat chicken with a fork. Yep, you read that right, and apparently that includes “the licking of the fingers upon the ingestion of the last available morsel.” I can’t make this stuff up.

Gainesville served as the Rowing/Kayaking Venue for the 1996 Olympics. And in 2003, Gainesville was named one of the Top 10 Places to Retire. Haha, this is where I live, y’all. You’ve had your history lesson for the day. You’re welcome.
My favorite photo from last week’s theme is from my co-host Sarah, it fits the “hot” theme perfectly. See what’s in my camera bag here.
