As a new mother for the first time at age 22, I believed I was a fairly prepared, well educated new parent. At the same time, I also knew I had a lot to learn… and I sure did!
Pregnancy was a big eye opener for me! I expected to have some morning sickness since everyone in my family experienced it, but I WAS NOT prepared for the constantly energy drain, the abnormal constipation, the heartburn (something I had never had before), and lets not forget the incredibly terrible life-changing stretchmarks!
Before I had children of my own there were many things I said I’d never do, and there were things I knew I would do! Oh how my view on things changed once I brought that newborn baby home!
I remember years ago when a co-worker of mine was discussing a sleeping situation about her 2-year-old daughter. I distinctly said “I would never do that!” She laughed and said “Never say never…” It wasn’t until I had children of my own, that I actually understood what she meant.
Playtex is asking you to share What You Didn’t Expect during pregnancy or as a new parent along with any clever situations to those tricky situations – in 150 words or less. And include a fun photo to capture the moment!

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Playtex Baby. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Yeah I definitely didn’t expect the heartburn either. lol And ankle swelling- I’d heard of other people having it but never actually had it myself until my 3rd pregnancy. Of course she was my biggest so maybe that explains why. lol
I like your “never say never” statement. You really can’t form a decision until you yourself have your own children!
