It’s nice to get the family out of the house every now and then, but finding an activity that everyone enjoys can be a challenge. And to add to the difficulty, the weather can restrict your options; if it’s too cold or rainy, you’ll want to find something to do inside. When looking for an outing that everyone can enjoy, consider these suggestions, organized by indoor and outdoor activities.

Indoor family activities

  • Go to the movies: Going out to see a movie is a classic family activity. Whether it’s at a drive-in or a theater, seeing a movie is a relatively inexpensive way to spend a few hours together. Although it can be difficult for everyone to agree on one movie, there are plenty of releases that appeal to children and adults. Do a bit of homework before you go to find out which movies are playing and how they were reviewed.
  • Go out to eat: Sharing a meal together is a great way to spend time with family, and when you go out to a restaurant, it adds some significance to the occasion. Just like with movies, everyone has their own taste in food, so compromises may have to be made when choosing a restaurant. Your best bet is to find a restaurant that everyone enjoys and stick with it, rather than choosing a new location every time.
  • Go to a museum: If your kids are old enough, they may enjoy a trip to the museum. It can be an educational and entertaining experience to see classic works of art, and young children will get a thrill from seeing things like dinosaur bones or other large animals.

Outdoor family activities

  • Go hiking: No matter where you live, chances are you’re close to a state or national park. A hike through the woods is good exercise and an excellent way to spend a few hours together.
  • Go on a picnic: If the weather is warm enough and not too windy, pack a picnic and eat in a park or grassy field. It’s a nice change of pace from sitting around a table at home, or in front of a TV during a meal.
  • Go sledding: Not all bad weather will keep you inside. After a good snowfall, take the kids to a nearby hill and go sledding. Walking back up the hill after each run is a great workout, and everyone will be ready for hot chocolate afterward.

Before heading out on your favorite family activity, make sure your vehicle is covered by automotive insurance. If you’re already covered, but thinking about switching providers, compare car insurance quotes from other companies, and choose the one that offers the best combination of price and coverage.
