back-to-school

Take a Tour and Meet with the Teachers – Get familiar with the school, especially if this your child’s first time attending. Take pictures at open house that they can review whenever they like before school starts. Introduce yourself to the teacher and put yourself out there. Let them know you are available at any time and want to help support what they are teaching in class. Also make sure that your student knows where and to whom they can turn to for support if needed.

Set a Bedtime – Switching from the lazy summer mornings to the early school days can be quite the transition. Both children and parents will benefit from 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Stick to a routine, turn off the electronics, and limit caffeine, such as sodas and chocolate, before bed.

Avoid the Morning Rush – Prepare the backpacks and lunch ahead of time. Lay out school clothes the night before. Or the week before – Every Sunday, get the entire wardrobe ready for Monday-Friday. (All the way down to the matching socks.) This will free up your weeknights for more important things like dinner and homework!

Prepare Simple Meals – Typically the well-balanced family dinner is the first to suffer when life gets crazy. I absolutely recommend weekly menu planning. Every weekend, plan your meals out for the week. If nothing else, at least have an idea of what you’re cooking. There are plenty of options for cutting time in preparing meals, such as batch cooking and using a crockpot.

Avoid Over Scheduling – Sports are great for meeting new friends and exercise but try to avoid getting involved in so many that the enjoyment of participation is lost to exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed. Pick one or two extra-curricular activities for children to focus on throughout the year.

This film – basically a movie and a live show rolled into one – is the first-of-its-kind interactive family musical that encourages the audience to get out of their seats, dance, and sing.
