I’m going to be a daddy very soon. True story. In July I’m going to be the proud owner of a top-of-the-line, brand new 2012 Boy! I’m looking forward to this immensely, but it got me thinking about a lot of things. One thought was “do I have the tools needed to cope with the excess cleaning and washing that will inevitably follow?”

Well, the answer is no. I have a washing machine that is unequipped to deal with the realities of family life. It’s perfect for my partner and I doing a couple of washes a week. But with a baby coming, I suspect we’ll need something altogether bigger and better.

I think I’m going to go for a Hotpoint because they have been around for years. I think everyone has or has had a Hotpoint appliance at some point, so they must be doing something right. Right?

With the amount of clothes I reckon I’m going to be cleaning, I think I’m going to need at least a 9kg machine. 1kg is roughly 5 t-shirts worth of clothes so 45 garments in one go will be brilliant! Luckily, there is a machine up to the task, and that machine is the Ultima WMUD962G.

It’s in a graphite finish, because I’ve already had a white machine and fancy something a little different. Plus it’s going to save me a little money on energy costs because it’s rated A++ for energy consumption.

However, the best things about it are the intensive super wash for tough stains, and the dedicated ‘Bed & Bath’ cycle, which is designed to get your sheets and towels really clean whilst still keeping them soft and fluffy – perfect for baby as it won’t irritate his skin too much!

Yep, I’ve got a lot to learn about being a daddy, but at least I’ll always have clean clothes for him!
